Over the course of two short years, Nintendo had re-establashed itself as the king of hand-held consoles with the hugely popular Nintendo DS, blowing away Sony's PSP with interactive multiplayer play and a low price tag. It also saw the evolution of bulky flash cards that stick out of the DS to ones that fit like a regular DS cartridge.
The most notable of these "slot-1" flash cards is the M3 DS simply. With a simple click of the mouse, it is easy to transfer games, mp3's and even video files to be played on the Nintendo Ds. I urge that you use this device to backup media that you already own or legal home-brew applications and games that are freely distributed over the net. This article will explore the many functions and capabilities the M3 DS simply has to offer and help you get the most out of your system.
In order to use the M3 DS simply, the first thing you'll need is a micro sd card. These mini SD cards are designed for ultra-small phones and is quickly becoming the new standard in media storage. As you might expect, the micro sd card offers varying storage capacities ranging from 512 MB to 4 GBs of memory. I would recommend at least 1 GB of memory for our purposes, which will store around 30 games or any combination of media files. Once you have the card ready, insert it into the USB adapter that came with the M3 DS simply and plug the unit into a free USB slot on your computer. Drag the system files and multimedia files over to the micro SD card and you're done!
Now that the micro SD card is loaded, plug it into the top of the M3 DS simply and put it into the slot at the top of the DS. Turn the DS on and wait for the main menu to load, you will see 3 options - Game menu, multimedia menu and Boot slot-2. The simple menu uses the touch screen and is easy to navigate, avoiding confusion for those who are new to the flash card technology. Clicking on the game menu takes you to the list of games and homebrew application stored on your micro SD card, select a game and it will prompt you to create a save file if it's your first time. Picking the second multimedia option will launch the moonshell application, allowing you to listen to your favourite tunes, watch videos, read txt files and view pictures. Finally, the last option lets you boot from the GBA slot, this is for those of you who would like to use the GBA flash card on the NDS. While the M3 DS simply certainly has a lot to offer, it is not without any faults.
The major hold-back of slot-1 cards is it's inability to load GBA applications and the M3 DS simply is no exception. There is no way around this unless you own a GBA flash card. The new M3 Ds simplys also does not include the alternate white shell anymore, which is a little disappointing for white DS lite owners, despite being not too noticeable when it is in the slot.
With so many features and its bargain price, you can't go wrong with a M3 DS simply flash card. The design is simple and to the point, without leaving anything out (except the GBA rom capabilities for old fans). Regardless of what you want to do with your DS, this flash card is an all-purpose solution which supports games, homebrew applications, music, video and more. It supports WiFi, rumble pak, internet browser, and it will not hinder your multiplayer experience.
